BANYAN EXPANDS VINES SUPPORT TO NEW 486-BASED IBM PS/2 SYSTEMS
Company Also to Support OS/2 Version 1.3 in Next VINES Release
WESTBORO, Mass., October 30, 1990 -- In its continuing effort to
provide customers the greatest flexibility in selecting network
server platforms, Banyan Systems today announced VINESR support for
the new, i486TM-based IBMR PS/2TM Model 90 XP 486 and Model 95 XP
486. High performance, easily expandable, and equipped with
integral SCSI (Small Computer Systems Interface) adapters, these
32-bit desktop and freestanding Micro ChannelTM systems are the most
recent IBM PS/2 family members to be certified by Banyan as VINES
network server platforms.
"Banyan has been shipping VINES with support for high-performance
486 platforms since June 1990, and, with this announcement, we
extend VINES 4.0 support to the newest members of IBM's PS/2
family," said James D'Arezzo, Banyan Vice President, Marketing. "As
a company, we are committed to providing VINES support to the
widest range of industry standard PCs, so that customers will
always have the freedom to use VINES with the server platform of
their choice."

BANYAN SUPPORTS NEW 486-BASED IBM PS/2 SYSTEMS/ Oct. 30 / Page 2
In addition to supporting the PS/2 Models 90 and 95, Banyan
confirmed that support for IBM's OS/2 Version 1.3, Standard Edition
and Extended Edition, will be included in the next release of VINES
which is currently in Beta test. This new version of VINES will
provide support for IBM's new version of OS/2 with its inherent
performance enhancements and reduced requirements for local disk
space and memory.
Said D'Arezzo, "Support of industry standards, like OS/2, DOS, and
UNIXR is Banyan's gateway to the 21st century. We believe that, of
all network operating systems, VINES -- because of its openness and
its basis in industry standards -- will continue to give customers
the best opportunity to create a unified networking scheme for any
organization regardless of the mix of computing platforms,
workstations, peripherals, and applications."
